Kabir Das
Kabir Das (1398-1518)
From his early childhood, Kabir was more of an eccentric who was not interested in conventional education or religion. In his poetry, he challenged and criticized both the blind imitation of the religious Muslims and the idolatry and caste system of the Hindus.
Not surprisingly, neither Muslim mullahs nor the Hindu pundits were pleased with him. The major part of Kabir's work was collected by the founder of the Sikh religion Baba Guru Nanak, and is a part of the Sikhism holy book "Guru Granth Sahib".
According to many traditions, he died at the age of 120 and wanted to be buried in the cemetery of the “Turks”, near Benares, India.
